SSA- Social Security Administration
"A U.S. government agency created in 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the SSA administers the social insurance programs in the United States. The agency covers a wide range of social security services, such as disability, retirement and survivors' benefits" (Social Security Administration - SSA).
Because social security, the system that provides the elderly with an income after a certain age, the federal government furthered its importance in the lives of individuals and helped to compensate the loss of lifetime savings frequently endured by older citizens in the Depression era.
